Credits and costs
What is a credit?
Credits pay for announcements, you're charged per announcement. A sound or your own clip costs 1 credit. A short text up to 100 characters with the standard voice costs 6, longer texts and better voices cost more. Push-to-talk costs 2 credits plus 1 per started 10 seconds.
Does every speaker cost extra?
No. An announcement to all speakers costs the same as to one. If it reaches no speaker, it costs nothing. The same goes for announcements that fall into your quiet hours and are skipped.
Do my credits expire?
Credits from packs never expire. Credits from a subscription are valid for their month, with a yearly plan they also arrive fresh every month. Subscription credits are used first, then your pack balance.
What happens when I run out of credits?
We let you know in time, at 80% and at 100%. You can buy a pack at any time, with a subscription at a discount. Or you switch to a bigger plan.
Subscription and payment
Do I need a subscription?
No. Free gives you 300 credits to start, after that you buy packs when you need them. All voices, sounds, your own clips, the apps and the API are included without a subscription. A subscription is worth it for more effects, scheduled announcements, several households or users.
Can I try a plan first?
Yes, you can try Home, Family and Team free for 7 days, with all features of the plan. During the trial you use your 300 starting credits, the full monthly credits come with the first payment. Cancel before and you pay nothing. Business starts right away, if you have questions first, just write to us.
Can I switch or cancel?
Yes, any time with a few clicks in the settings, no email, no notice period. Upgrades apply immediately, downgrades at the end of the billing period. Monthly plans run until the end of the month, yearly plans until the end of the term. Packs you bought and their credits stay yours after cancelling.
How do I pay, and do I get an invoice?
You pay online by credit card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay. The invoice with VAT shown comes by email automatically. Companies enter their VAT ID, then you're billed net within the EU.
Sonos and announcements
Which Sonos speakers work?
Almost all of them, including the popular Play:1. Quak uses the official Sonos interface for announcements, your music gets quieter and keeps playing. On some older models like the Play:1 it pauses briefly and then continues. Only very old devices can't play announcements, right after connecting Quak shows you which of your speakers are in.
Which voices and languages are there?
Over 300 voices in more than 70 languages. Many voices speak several languages, even mixed within one sentence. With the preview you hear a voice in your browser first, without anything playing on your speakers.
Can I set when it's quiet?
Yes, with quiet hours. The default is 10 pm to 7 am, you can change it per weekday, for example longer on weekends, or switch it off. Announcements during quiet hours are skipped and cost nothing.
Privacy and companies
What does Quak store from my announcements?
No texts. The history only shows who made an announcement when and where. The generated audio stays in the cache for at most 24 hours, repeating it within that time costs only 2 credits. You can shorten the cache to 12, 3 or 1 hour or switch it off.
Where is my data?
Quak runs on servers in the EU. For the voices we use specialised providers that only receive the text of the announcement. All providers are listed in our privacy policy.
What do companies need?
From Family on there's a data processing agreement (DPA). Team and Business have user roles, a promised response time in support and net prices. More locations or users for Business are available on request, just write to us at hello@quak.party.
